US school gives students extra sleep time

27-01-2010

A New Jersey high school has decided to start morning classes 15 minutes later to allow students longer in bed, in a bid to improve their academic performance. The move is part of a year-long trial at Chatham High School in which it is hoped the delayed start time will help students stay alert in class and perform better throughout the day.

Various studies have found that well-rested students invariably perform better academically and physically compared to those who regularly stay up late or keep generally poor sleep hygiene.

Although the additional time isn’t free – lunch breaks have been shortened – the move has apparently been largely supported by the student body, and has been described as allowing a “more efficient use of the time available to us” by the school authorities.

Each and every Ergo Flex visco elastic memory foam mattress offers pressure-relieving performance and is designed to give you the night’s sleep you’ve always dreamed of. Providing optimum support for your whole body, Ergo Flex mattresses ensure a restful and comfortable sleep, leaving you feeling rejuvenated and energised in the morning.
