Sleep - a factor of weight loss

13-10-2010

If you are trying to lose some weight or just wanting to get into better shape, then your sleep, how much you get and the quality of it is just as important as watching what you eat and routine exercise. Sleep is your body’s chance to relax and repair itself and if it isn’t getting the chance to do these simple things, then it will suffer by not being able to cope with the stresses and strains you are putting it under.

When we are sleeping, the brain may be active, but the body is in a highly rested state, recuperating after the previous day and preparing for the following day. If you don’t get enough sleep, then your body won’t have recovered and you will not be alert and ready for the following day. Sleep is crucial in a healthy lifestyle, as you can’t exercise if you are tired, and overeating is a common consequence of a lack of sleep, with the body trying to regain any energy lost through consuming food.

Going to bed and sleeping a sufficient time will also put you in a positive frame of mind for the new day. Those that don’t get enough sleep can be found cranky, easily distracted and lethargic so in no fit state to exercise or concentrate on anything important. Thus it is important sleep plays an important role in a healthy diet, because if it is neglected it can affect your behaviour, attitude and actions in life.
