The Importance of Regular Sleeping Patterns

09-11-2010

Maintaining a regular sleeping pattern is one of the easiest ways of improving your physical and mental wellbeing. It sounds so simple, yet for many of us it is not something we ever really focus on or try to achieve. This doesn’t mean that you have to have the same sleeping pattern as everyone else, as we all have different lifestyles and sleep requirements. What is important is to try to follow a pattern which fits both your lifestyle and your sleep requirements.

The old adage that you should have eight hours sleep is good as a rough guide, but it is certainly not true for everybody. The average sleep cycle is around seven hours, but many people find they need less and it is not uncommon for some people to regularly have four or five hours a night and have a perfectly fulfilling and normal life. What you need to do is work out how much you need and when is the best time for you to get it.

Once you know how much you need and when you should do it, you should try to stick to it. Go to bed when you should and get up when you should. By maintaining a regular sleeping pattern you will find going to sleep easier, getting up easier and you will find the sleep you having more recuperative and satisfying. The benefits to your body and mind will be enormous for such a simple and enjoyable outlay.
