Election worries top sleep poll

04-05-2010

Concerns over who to vote for in this week’s General Election are keeping many of us in the UK awake, according to the results of a new poll from hotel chain Travelodge.

Closely linked to worries about money, which have consistently been one of the major sleep disturbances in recent years, the election fears stem from the three main parties’ ability to rebuild the country’s economy. Also, Gordon Brown, David Cameron and Nick Clegg were claimed by some of the 5000 respondents to appear in their recent dreams and nightmares.

“It’s not surprising that 36% of Brits are having sleepless nights about this week’s General Election, as fear of change and money worries are key factors that fuel insomnia,” said Corrine Sweet, a psychologist. “The imminent political upheaval is certainly affecting people’s ability to sleep.”
