Tips for better sleep

12-10-2012

Sleep, for many of us it is a wonderful respite from the day, for others, it is a battle, one where they must fight to get to sleep and need to fight to stay asleep. Rather than being a restful time when they can recharge and rejuvenate, sleep becomes a nightmare, a endless struggle.

If you struggle to get to sleep and to stay asleep there are some simple things you can do to improve your sleep.

1.Maintain a regular sleep cycle, go to bed at around the same time each night and wake up around the same time. The body craves regularity and the more you can stick to a consistent schedule the easier you will find falling asleep. Don’t change during the weekends as this will throw your body clock off.
2.Find a relaxing pre-sleep routine that helps you wind down and get ready for bed. People find baths are good, others listen to music, some read books and some do some light exercise. Whatever works for you.
3.Turn your room into a sleep cave. Get rid of any light source whatsoever, no matter how small or weak. Make sure that your bed is comfy, keep the temperature mild and ensure that there is some air flow.
