Many people have heard of the body clock but are unsure of its role in the body. The body clock is the internal time keeper which ensures that our bodies are ready for the various sequences of the day and night. It is responsible for gradually waking your body up in the morning and ensuring that it is ready to go when you need it and it is in charge of helping you to fall asleep at night.
The body clock is synchronised with external signals, it is set by the light levels of your environment. It is therefore fairly regimented by the day-night cycle, which is why it is so difficult to work night shift, it goes against the body’s natural order.
The body clock is also the reason it is so important to maintain regular sleep patterns. The body craves regularity and order. If you go to sleep at around the same time every night and wake up at the same time, then you will find it easy to go to sleep and you will have a more fulfilling rest.
Trying to go against the body clock can cause insomnia and other related issues. It really pays to keep a routine as it works with your body.
