Sleep related spending has reached over $8.8 billion per year globally with much of that money being spent on sleeping pills. This amount of money is especially wasteful when many suggest that you can get a better and longer lasting result using good sense and a few simple tweaks.
If you are having trouble sleeping then don’t go for the quick fix, spend a bit more time and save money and get the best results. Here are the key elements to getting to sleep and staying asleep.
1. Develop a routine. The body craves routine, so go to bed around the same time each night and get up at the same time. That way you are working in sync with your body clock, letting it prepare your body and mind for sleep each night and waking you up in the morning.
2. Watch what you eat and drink. There are many foods and drinks that affect sleep, some keep you awake others help you to drift off, research these, monitor your diet and make the right changes.
3. Turn your room into a sleep inducing environment. Get rid of all light sources, make your room dark, quiet and ensure you have a fresh air flow, all of this helps you get to sleep and stay asleep.
