Though powernaps sound like something that people did in the 80s they are actually a really useful way of reenergising yourself if you are feeling tired. If you do them well, powernaps will leave you feeling far more awake and refreshed than you were before you had one. The problem lies in getting the length right as if you over do it, you will wake feeling really groggy and disorientated. Thus getting the right time is critical.
Much like the fabled Goldilocks, when it comes to powernaps you need to make sure they are not too short and not too long. You need to get them just right. However, that is not as easy as it sounds as the perfect time can vary between individuals and can even vary for a person depending on a variety of other factors. Nonetheless, generally speaking, the ideal length for a powernap is between 10 and 30 minutes. Therefore, if you set an alarm for around 20 minutes, you should be right. If you sleep for longer than 30 minutes then you will enter into the deeper stages of the sleep cycle and if you wake from those you are left feeling tired and groggy.
