Nap sessions may be the future of campus education

26-06-2013

You are more likely to associate naps with preschool education rather than university education but in the future you could find that university students are napping around campus... and not just in boring lectures.

The University of Technology in Sydney campus revamp includes a variety of spaces that are designed for both studying and napping.  These casual learning areas may sound somewhat silly to many but have been created as a way of allowing uni students to study in a flexible manner.

These spaces have wall nooks that will allow them to sleep at any hour of the day and night, so that they are able to maximise the time they spend at university. The reasoning is that almost every student has a job as well these days and they are finding it harder to fit their studies in during conventional hours, so by providing students with spaces where they can study and nap the university will make it easier for students to study when it suits them.

This is part of the changing reality for many students who have a variety of other commitments they have to meet each week. By providing a place for them to nap the university hopes that the students can get more out of their study time no matter what time of the day or night it is.
