Help with insomnia

08-08-2012

If you are struggling with insomnia then you are probably willing to do just about anything to get a decent night’s sleep. However, the problem is that many of the solutions can be as bad as the problem. Most doctor proscribed sleep pills have undesirable side effects, such as sluggishness, constipation, diarrhoea, headaches, unsettling dreams, dry skin and mouth, and cannot be taken long term. Many suffers would rather not sleep than take these chemicals. Fortunately, there are a number of natural remedies that have been proven to really help. The trick is to try each one and see what works for you as each has differing efficacy on different people.

Changing the size and timing of your meals is one of the simplest methods of alleviating insomnia. Most people have their biggest meal of the day at night, this is not the best for sleeping so you should try to have a big breakfast, a medium sized lunch and a small dinner.  Eating a large meal just before bed makes the body to work hard digesting when it should be trying to relax.

Another awesome natural remedy for insomnia is to practice the ancient art of Ayurveda, a traditional medicine philosophy from India. Ayurveda is a body-mind approach which aims to improve both the mental and physical well being of those who practice it through a combination of diet, exercise and meditation.
