Chelsea FC and Spain star Juan Mata has revealed that regularly getting a good night’s sleep is one of the main reasons behind his performances this season. The energetic midfielder has been one of the highlights of Chelsea’s season, with key appearances in the domestic league and Europe, as well as the Spanish national team. Chelsea’s marathon season concludes this week with the Europa League final, closely followed by the last round of league fixtures at the weekend. Should Mata appear in these two matches it will bring his club season appearances to a remarkable seventy games – despite a busy summer in 2012 where he appeared in both Euro 2012 and the Olympics.
“I try to sleep as much as I can,” Mata told independent.co.uk. “Eight or nine hours a night.”
Mata’s sparkling season has also seen him named in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year, as well as ranking third overall on the EA Sports PPI listings.
