Sleep is an essential component in everyone’s lives, it helps to refresh and reinvigorate us. People who suffer from sleep disorders are afflicted with a wide number of ailments, from depression and anxiety through to muscle pain and hallucinations. Sleep disorders affect a wide variety of people and are caused by numerous physical and psychological issues.
Fortunately, there are some really simple, painless and effective methods of improving both the quality and the quantity of your sleep. One of the key factors in sleep quality and quantity is diet. While some substances can have entirely negative impacts on our sleep, with caffeine and alcohol as prime suspects, there are other food and drink types that can have marked positive effects on sleep. One of these is the humble and common banana.
Bananas are a potent source of both potassium and magnesium, which both help to relax overstressed muscles. They also contain a substance called tryptophan, which converts into serotonin and melatonin when ingested. Serotonin and melatonin are both neural hormones that help calm the brain. Bananas therefore help to relax and calm both the body and the mind.
Before bed, make yourself a banana and milk smoothie, a delicious and effective way of helping yourself get to sleep.
