Aromatherapy for a better sleep

21-10-2011

Sleep is a vital, if somewhat still unexplained, aspect of life. We all need it, and we all suffer if we don’t get enough. For most of us, experiencing the occasional bad night’s sleep is annoying, but it is hardly detrimental to our lives. However, for some people, insomnia is an ongoing and highly destructive problem that they struggle with on a daily basis.

The problem is that many of the cures are as bad as the problem. Using conventional medicine will cause you to become dependent, unable to sleep without a dose of pills. On waking, you will often be groggy and slow for the day, feeling like your brain is still asleep.

That is why so many people use natural remedies, as they are a far less damaging and intrusive way of dealing with the problem. One of the most popular natural remedies is aromatherapy.
Specifically, English lavender has been used in aromatherapy to help people sleep. Lavender has been proven to help people fall asleep, sleep longer, and wake feeling more invigorated. It comes in an oil form and can be placed using a dropper on your pillow or a handkerchief.

It has been used for centuries with no ill effect, so if you struggle with sleep, consult your doctor and think about giving it a go.
