In the race to the moon, and beyond, NASA invented a number of incredible technologies that have become life changing for everyday people, including scratch resistant coatings, invisible braces for teeth, shoe insoles, long distance telecommunications, smoke detectors, water filters, cordless tools and, the now famous, NASA memory foam.
NASA memory foam was developed as high tech seat coating that would improve crash protection for astronauts and pilots. The qualities that made this a winning product in the demanding aeronautical environment have also made NASA memory foam the perfect material for mattresses and pillows.
The most amazing of these qualities is that it is a temperature sensitive visco-elastic material. It becomes softer with heat and because the heavier parts of your body, like your torso, are hotter, it is softer and more comfortable in those areas. At room temperature the mattress will mould to the shape of your body within several minutes. The mattress are generally denser than other types of foam or spring mattresses yet due to its ability to become softer when heated, it is both more comfortable and more supportive than these other types of mattress, in effect giving you the best of both worlds.
You don’t need to go to space to live in the space age.
