Bedroom allergens

16-09-2012

Our beds are our refuges, the place where we can escape the madness of the day, a sanctuary where we can rest our weary heads. However, for an increasing number of people their beds have become a source of allergies. While the rise of allergies in the western world is still puzzling many medical experts, there is a growing understanding of the sources and triggers of many allergies.

A variety of studies have found that up to 45 percent of beds harbour dust mite concentrations big enough to trigger allergies and even asthma symptoms. This is a staggeringly high number of beds and it may have something to do with the rising rates of asthma.

There are a number of things you can do to protect yourself and your family from dust mites in your bed. The simplest thing you can do is to get a memory foam mattress as these are impervious to dust mites. The manufacturing process means that memory foam is made of thousands of sealed bubbles of air, rather than being porous like normal foam. This means there are no dust mites in memory foam.

Problem solved. Get a memory foam bed and say goodbye to dust mties.
