Memory Foam Mattresses And Bulging Discs

25-03-2011

A bulging disc is incredibly uncomfortable and can make sleeping difficult if not impossible, depending on what mattress you have. The disc is made from a soft gelatinous material that usually acts as cushion for the vertebrae. A bulging disc is a condition related to the spine, particularly in the lumbar or lower back region. It occurs when the disc bulges through an opening in the spine. Generally speaking, treatment is conservative, with surgery only occurring if it is considered extremely serious.

This means that most people who have a bulging disc are going to have to live with it for awhile. To ease the pain as much as possible, you need to have a mattress that is both soft and supportive. With most traditional style mattresses you only get one or the other, but with memory foam, it gives you both. This is because memory foam sculpts itself to your unique body shape, reacting to your body’s own heat to give where it needs to so that it moulds perfectly.

As the mattress fits you so perfectly, your body has to less pressure on it, meaning that the muscles can relax and that your back will have good posture. This is why memory foam is so good for bulging discs, as having a well aligned back while in bed is critical.
