How Can I Clean Urine From A Memory Foam Mattress?

18-03-2011

Accidents happen, it is simply a fact of life, and when they do, all you can do is clean up and move on. What if said accident happens to be urine on your favourite memory foam mattress? Your luxurious and sumptuous refuge, your ethereal cloud bed is now stained with pee, so what can you do?

Before discussing how to clean it, a quick exposition on the construction of the mattress. The top layer is a removable Jacquard outer cover, which is machine washable, beneath this is an inner cover, followed by a nine cm layer of memory foam, followed by four cm of cool sleep air flow layer then nine cm of high density base support layer.

If there is urine on your bed, you need to act fast. Get the Jacquard cover off and into the wash. Then get a mixture of sodium bicarbonate and a small amount of hydrogen peroxide. Apply this to the affected area and allow to soak through. This should neutralise the urine. Then you need to use whatever you have at hand to try and sponge as much of the cleaning agent up. Memory foam will soak up a lot of water, so you may need to use a hair dryer on a low setting. Often the mattress will take three to five days to dry fully.
