What Does "Anti-Allergenic" Mean?

09-02-2011

Beds can be one of the most comforting pieces of furniture we own. There is nothing better than snuggling up in bed after a long day. But what if something in your bed causes you to have an asthma attack, or to break out in a rash? Then the bed goes from being a best friend to a mortal foe. For some people, their bed is not the comfortable haven it should be, instead, it harbours dust and mites that cause allergic reactions and asthma attacks.

Lucky for these people, there are now a number of anti-allergenic mattresses and mattress protectors available. Anti-allergenic basically refers to something that does not cause or exacerbate allergies. Old style mattresses are a magnet for dust and mites, holding all these irritants in. Memory foam mattresses, aside from being one of the most comfortable sleeps around, are fantastic for people who have allergies as they do not retain all the dust and mites that can set off peoples’ allergies. This is because of their cellular foam structure.
